Over the past 12 years, more than 40,000 Union Learning Representatives (ULRs) have been trained, and over a quarter of a million people are being given training and learning opportunities through their union every year.
Aims & Objectives
dreamm successfully tendered for the provision on an all-in-one resource for apprentices and anyone considering an apprenticeship in England. The application needed to include guidance, interactive decision making tools, bite-sized learning, and job searches. Working closely with the cross-functional unionlearn project team, dreamm worked closely to the tender brief to ensure the delivery of:
- App development for both iOS and Android
- Functionality that can could deployed on the unionlearn website
- Publishing the app to both the iOS and Google Play stores
- The graphic designs as required, including the logo and templates
- A Learner Management System
- Quiz and eLearning content
- An Apprenticeship Pay Calculator
- A ‘Rate Your Apprenticeship’ tool
- An Apprenticeships Vacancies search facility
- A ‘Choosing the Right Apprenticeship’ tool
- A Content Management System for updating the app
Implementation
Both the app and website went live on the 8th July 2019. The initial launch was at the annual conference hosted at Congress House in London. The functionality within the application was phased in terms of development to allow the internal teams an adequate opportunity to test the functionality against the specification and on the various platforms and devices that this tool could ultimately be used on.
During the development phase we ensured that review / amend cycle iteration were included for each of the key phases. A pilot group of testers was also established, along with a steering committee to sign-off and approve the various aspects, e.g. design, usability wireframes, etc.
Outcomes
The project successfully fulfilled all of the contract obligations and was delivered on time and within budget. We continue to work with the unionlearn team to ensure the ongoing success of the Apprenticeship Essentials tool.
Feedback
Since the project launch and availability on the different app stores and website we’ve had positive feedback from users and the internal project teams at unionlearn with minimal support requests.
